Taiga is a fun brand to work with.
The owner is a rather romantic person. He cares about the process of creating and crafting jounery more than the result. We believe in order to better understand what we produce, we need to go site-visit, communicate with the factory and locals, understand what they care, what kind of life they have, so that our products might have a soul.
We packed our cloths and flew to Japan as a result.

Destination : Sabae, Fukui.
Sabae is a very small city close to the Japan sea in Fukui prefecture.
We drive 7h from Tokyo all the way to there. You will see how the view shifts from skyscapers to beautiful countryside with mountains.

The two best acetate suppliers in the world are probably Mazzucchelli from Italy and Takiron rowland from Japan.
Technically Takiron rowland is not from Sabae, it is たつの, which is 3 hours driving distance from Sabae to the West. But Sabae definitely has Takiron rowland’s storage places.
We went to visit one of factories Taiga working with in Sabae, where we see their storage of Mazzucchelli and Takiron rowland’s acetate material board from years of years working with them.
Some of the boards are unique, as it was maybe produced with some batches in some certain years, then quickly discontinued.

I would like to keep a certain volumne of the design, so that the overall silhouette is not ambiguous.
Instead, I would like to tell the users from where those lines are from: we have a base circle, shape of the face as a straight verticle line on both left and right, certain angle requested for the nose, and we shrink the diameter of the base circle’s up and bottom line for better ergonomics.
For the temple, I added a reinforcing rib on the outer surface just to increase the volumne and balance the weight.
