Handle
244/244P
German hardware company HAFI and UNStudio have collaborated on a new collection of handles for doors and windows.
The collection, called HAFI 244, is designed to facilitate natural and intuitive interaction, providing a full range of sculptural and contemporary handles.
The project was inspired by the architectural towers of the FOUR Frankfurt development. For the design of the handles, we translated the curvature of the towers into constructive solids and transformed them into
functional and ergonomic surfaces.

A Collaborative Approach
HAFI and UNStudio worked closely on this new family of products, combining HAFI’s extensive knowledge of product development, materials, finishes and understanding of the market with UNStudio’s knowledge of architecture, experience design, aesthetics and innovation.
Ben van Berkel: “The collaboration with HAFI has been a fantastic experience. In addition to visiting their factory, we engaged in a series of incredibly creative and positive workshops in order to develop the 244 family of handles and refine the details together.”
“HAFI 244 is ergonomic, comfortable, solid, easy-to-use and not too complicated to produce, which makes it an affordable option for all building scales. It is also designed in such a way that it can be opened with the hand or the elbow. We also investigated HAFI’s wide range of finishes and colours, so that the handle could be extremely versatile and tailored to suit any interior.“
